Jesus’ last discourse in the temple (Matthew 23), begins on a merciful note and includes a proclamation of the universal truth of the Fatherhood of God and the brotherhood of man. In the second part of the discourse we have something akin to the July 4, 1776 Declaration of Independence (of the English colonies in North America from Great Britain)—a long list of detailed grievances are presented. This discourse shows the coherence of mercy and justice.
