Whatever is going on in your life or in our world, you can always be cosmically stabilized and intimately comforted by the truth that God is our Father.
The truth of the fatherhood of God is easily accessible. When in simplicity you exercise the faith of a child and turn to him, you discover him as your Father.
This discovery is liberating because you are freed from confusion about whether the universe is ultimately friendly by knowing the number one truth about the Creator. Scientific cosmology says that 13.8 billion years ago there was a creative explosion, and that in the tiniest fraction of a second the laws of physics kicked in. But scientific cosmology cannot tell you the Source of those laws. To know God as a loving and merciful spirit Father enables us to live in harmony with the Creator and the purpose of the evolving creation.
The truth of the fatherhood of God is liberating because it frees you from struggling about your core identity—the Who-am-I? question gets an answer. You are a child of God. Every other aspect of identity finds its place around this central truth.
And once we know God as our Father, we know that we are all family. However difficult our differences may be, we know that God loves each one infinitely, and that we can learn to have an intelligent and wise love for each person. From this first truth about God flow many other spiritual truths.
What if someone’s emotions and mind block the Father concept of God because of a childhood experience that was turned into a nightmare by an abusive father? Each person is free to choose the name that fits his or her personal discovery of the truth of the God who dwells within. In the end, the name for God that you choose matters little. What does matter is that you know God and aspire to become like him. But knowing God as a spirit Father, heals the confused idea that the Fatherhood of God is a projection based on human fathers. Human parents may be poor reflections of the divine Parent. What a difference it will make when families everywhere grow in the realization of being part of the family of God!
