Ten Rules of Fishing for Souls
- Decide what kind of fish you want to catch before going out.
- Find a lake or stream that has that type of fish. Pick a spot you know has fish from your past experience, or ask experienced fishermen where to find them.
- Learn the waters and discover where the fish are. If you do not know where the fish are today, try trolling until you find some.
- If conditions on the water are poor, either adapt your technique or stay home and rest.
- If there are schools of fish, use a net. If the fish are scattered, use a line to target individual fish where you find them.
- The best bait or lure is usually similar to what they normally eat.
- Use bait that is the right size for the fish you are trying to catch. Too big will make it harder for them to get hooked.
- Learn to skillfully present the lure to the fish. You can learn how from others or by experimenting, but it takes practice!
- When the fish bites, be careful not to fight it too hard. Often the fish will resist, so be patient but persistent. If you lose it, come back later with a different lure.
- The fish you caught belongs to God. His goal is more healthy and growing fish. Release it where you found it, a bit wiser, or take it to better waters and baptize in the Spirit.
